Who is in charge here?

I AM.

The dogs above were two of my farm dogs, Bear and Fort. Both of them have traveled over the Rainbow Bridge. However, when they lived with me as outside farm dogs, they knew I was in charge.

I am the Boss, the Leader, the Top Dog, The Alpha.

The first behavior to learn as a Dog Owner is how to be the Alpha dog.

How did I learn to become the Alpha Dog? My time spent with dogs and learning how they think and communicate. The keys are your energy, body movements, tone of voice, attitude and honesty.

Dogs are not people. Your dog is not your child or baby. Your dog is a dog.

Behaving as the Alpha Dog does not mean being aggressive, forceful or demanding. Your behavior should demonstrate that you have calm energy, confidence, non-reactive response, consistency, trustworthiness and more. I suggest you read the book The Other End of the Leash. (I also suggested this book in a post below.) You will learn more on how dogs think (they think you are a dog) and how your behavior is key to training and everything in your relationship with your special canine companion.

Don't worry you can still think your dog is your baby, just remember your baby speaks another language. Learning how to communicate with your dog is one of most loving behavior you can offer provide.
